On a ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo, Anna (18) meets a group of Norwegian men on a stag party. The groom's brother Christopher (32) offers her a drink and the two end up spending a wild evening together on deck. The next morning, however, she wakes to a surprise.
The year is 1933, and society has certain expectations of how young women should behave. 17-year-old Maren is wild and unruly and is in turn sent to the women's institution at Sprogø to become more compliant. The stay at Sprogø has the opposite effect on Maren, and she ignites a spark in Sørine, who after six years at the institution has become accustomed to the norms of the time and the expectations of the institution. Slowly the two begin to form an unbreakable bond, which will affect the rest of their lives.
Marie is juggling a demanding job as a doctor in oncology and her hectic family life. When she finds out she's pregnant with her third child, she handles it with her customary efficiency. But the stress is more than she bargained for, driving Marie to decisions she might live to regret.
Emma has a perfectly normal family until one day it turns out her dad, Thomas, is transgender. As Thomas becomes Agnete, both father and daughter struggle to hold on to what they had while accepting that everything has changed.
