Symphonic Memories is a poetic meditation on the nature of human memory. Citizens of Lisbon share the same spaces, yet see them all differently. Historical and personal events can be very subjective. The documentary/film essay is an associative collage of memories and an introduction to the identity of Lisbon's citizens.
"Fragments of Gabi" consists of a series of ambiguous excerpts from the uneventful life of Gabi, a Romanian mother adrift in a rootless urban landscape. The film follows her for 36 hours, but we only catch glimpses of what she is actually going through. As the action unfolds, we understand that Gabi is undergoing a silent revolution, trying to free/emancipate herself from her disconnected surroundings. The world of the film is fragmented - it is built on singular vignettes that offer various elements in one scene, stimulating, on and off screen, the imagination and participation of the spectator.
