Crottet came to Suonikylä in Petsamo for the first time already before the World Wars, and was enchanted by the self-regulatory community he met there. Gauriloff skilfully combines documentary material and the most dreamlike layers of the human mind, letting the harmony of the inner voices crash into the chaotic noise of the surrounding world.
Je'vida, a Sámi woman, is on the journey of a lifetime back to her home region. She was born in Sámi lands, but moved away from home when she grew up. Over the years, she has become Finnish and tried to forget her Kolt Sámi roots. She even changed her name to Ida, to be more Finnish. Now, decades later, she is making the journey back to her home region with her niece Anna. During the journey, she must revisit difficult memories from her youth and childhood.

Along the way, the workers whose calloused hands mine, raise and harvest each ingredient reveal their dreams and hopes, like the Danish pig farmer who loves his sows but longs for a girlfriend, and the Portuguese tomato picker who wants to stay healthy long enough to pay her daughters way through university.
