Vidyalakshmi marries Shanavas against her family's wishes. After Shanavas gets killed in an accident, she finds herself all alone with her daughter. Facing severe financial crisis, fate brings her in touch with Preman.

Kochu Thresia, is a rich widow, who craves to 'live' life, but is alienated by her children who are caught in the rat race for making money. At this juncture, she meets the young, down-to-earth Reji (Jayaram) in whom she finds a companion. Reji eagerly fulfils all her wishes. From savouring the mouth-watering 'but forbidden' beef to riding on the elephant, they enjoy all the moments spent together. They even get arrested by the police for gambling. Meanwhile, in his efforts to control his alcoholic father Chacko (Innocent), from causing public nuisance, Reji takes over the fatherly role.

There he meets a village girl who lives next door and they fall in love. Problems happen when there two cultures clash, as the girl wants to become modern, while Mohanlal wants to continue to live the simplistic village life style.

Appu's father lies to him that his mother is dead. Devoid of a mother's love, Appu resorts to smoking and drinking until he learns that she's still alive.

Velayudham and his cousin Valli are in love since their childhood. Her father Shankarankutty hates Velayudham and looks for a groom for his daughter. Vexed by this misadventure, Velayudham leaves his village to Palani in order to find a job with the help of his friend Kunju Khader (Charle). Kunju Khader turns out to be a pickpocket.

After his retirement, Raghavan Nair (Thilakan) is back at his home. His long cherished dream to spend his retired life along with his family is thwarted after seeing his two sons brawling each other over their political differences.
