In this affectionate send-up of the Humphrey Bogart detective films of the 1940s, a man idolizes Bogart so much that he has his features altered to look exactly like his idol. He then opens up a detective agency under the name Sam Marlowe (an amalgam of the names of Bogart's characters from "The Maltese Falcon" and "The Big Sleep").

The international criminal Vinaro enjoys sending explosive wristwatches to his enemies.

The whitewater raft trip of two couples is interrupted by a visit from four prison escapees who take the women hostage to aid in their escape. The husbands break free from their bonds and raft down the river in hopes of rescuing their wives.

Sympathetic nurse, Bonnie McNeil, befriends Marian and protests her treatment.
