In & Of Itself

At first glance, the magician Derek DelGaudio’s one-man show ‘In & of Itself’ looks like what it makes itself out to be, namely world-class entertainment. But when it dawns on you what he is actually up to, you are blown off your feet and probably end up shedding a tear or two. DelGaudio’s critically acclaimed performance, which has played to sold-out houses 560 times in New York, is, in fact, something more than a fantastic illusion act. From up on stage, he engages the audience, tells stories about himself and performs his illusions with bravura, just like you would expect from a colossal cult success. But at the same time, he breaks the illusions we all bear within us. Nothing is what it seems to be, and maybe this also applies to ourselves? Is our fixed identity actually the greatest illusion of them all? Either way, it’s best not to know too much about what awaits you before you settle down to watch the legendary Frank Oz’s recording of DelGaudio’s hit show.
