The adventures of a photographer, who undertook to take a photographs of exiled dictator from South America and eventually found chased without knowing why.
The movie is about dictatorships in Greece – first, the Metaxas regime (1936-1940), and then the Colonels’ Junta (1967-74). In Part One, the Metaxas regime is depicted as a circus, where Thanasis (Thanasis Vengos) is a clown trying to conceal a young colleague’s subversive action. In Part Two, we see Thanasis suffer because of his honesty and kindness, in a country where the system’s irrationality is clearly evident.
A policeman arrests Thanassis (Thanassis Vengos), who admits he stole the trousers of a happy man so that he could also be happy in turn, just as a gypsy (Souli Sabah) suggested. He confesses that, in order to marry his beloved (Nike Linard), he asked to borrow a pair of trousers, but no one was willing to lend him. So he decided to steal one. The policeman assists him and finds the trouser holder (Yiannis Argyris) and also works for Thanasis. So the latter can now marry his girlfriend and make a family.
A good-hearted guy, Romeos, who thinks he's a big "Kazanova", comes out of the madhouse. At the suggestion of his cousin Leon Karfis, he goes on holiday to an island where he is continuously under the watchful eye of a nurse of the madhouse, Telemachus.
Young Giannis escapes from prison and hides in a deserted factory, with the dream of traveling far away. At the factory, a group of university students rehearse Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream, and a girl from the group discovers him. The students accept him into their group, offering him a part in the play as well. One night, three young men try to destroy the props for the theatrical performance, and Giannis tries to stop them, ending up back in prison. The students manage to get him out of jail, and he embarks on a ship and leaves far away.
Returning from a 3 year captivity in Vietnam, a kind chemist finds his wife married to his boss who has become rich due to his invention.
A provincial arrives in Athens, where he is approached by two mini-patrons in order to eat his money.
