A daughter of poor parents was engaged to a man when she was 13. The man is away working in Calcutta. In the meanwhile, she befriends a truck-driver who promises her parents a huge amount of money. The girl is snatched away by her father-in-law and raped by him. But she is punished for his crime.

When Mohan asks Kamli to marry him, she tells him that she is to marry Bhairo, part of the gypsy group, but she also indicates that she loves him. Mohan and Kamli plan to run away together. Kamli accordingly packs up and waits for Mohan to show up. But Mohan does not show up, instead Bhairo shows up and takes Kamli by force back to their camp. Will Kamli ever come to know why Mohan did not come as they had planned?

Ajay Chandra, a hard working and ambitious young man, who dreams of bigger things than a small job. He has dreams of starting his own business. One day he meets Aruna at a friends wedding and slowly fall in love. Aruna is daughter of a very successful lawyer. Ajay uses his rich friend's car, apartment etc. to impress Aruna's family, in the hope that he will succeed in his own business before they are married. However, Aruna's lawyer dad turns down the marriage proposal and starts to prosecute Ajay for business fraud. Through his hard work and support from Aruna and his mother, Ajay is able to correct the wrong doings and is able to win over Aruna's father.

The film established Amol Palekar as having an uncommon comic talent for playing mousy characters, a role he would repeat several times in his career.

Geeta, a stage artist in Star Theatre Company, takes a ride in industrialist Sandeep Anand's car and gossip starts making rounds about their love. Sriram, owner of Star Theatre Company, wants to take advantage of the love between Geeta and Sandeep and publicizes that their new play will be sponsored by Sandeep Anand without Sandeep's knowledge. Sandeep goes on to investiglate the mysterious bills he gets for costumes, meets Geeta and falls in love with her. After quite a lot of confusion, things settle down and Sandeep and Geeta finally get married.

Three friends, in their 60s, try to do everything that they couldn't do in their younger days - before death arrives.

Although scores of people migrate to Bombay, from all over India, most do not even have a roof to live under. Some who are lucky manage to find accommodations but pay very high rents, and others who find accommodations refuse to vacate under any circumstances. Two such tenants are Mrs. Laxmi Abhyankar and her employed daughter, Jaya, who live in a flat in Pali Hill area. They had rented this flat from Lucknow-based Kundanlal Choudhury 15 years ago and have been paying him the same amount of Rs.500/- since then. Kundanlal's son, Anil, comes to Bombay to seek employment, and does get employed. His dad wants him to go and live with the Abhyankars, which he does.
