Arista's greatest recording artists of the last 25 years gather for this May 15th concert in honor of the record label's 25th anniversary. The highly significant place that Arista Records holds in rock history is highlighted here by the high quality of the music performances and the excitement of the celebrities who introduce each segment. Packed with celebrity guests and classic music, this is a once-in-a-lifetime concert.
A performance from Townshend's first North American solo tour was broadcast live from the theatre of the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York in August 1993. The concert was in three parts: an opening session of eight songs, a complete performance of Psychoderelict and an encore of a further five songs.
The Kidsongs Kids are swept off to SillyDillyVille and the silliness begins! A walk "Down By The Bay" finds a llama in pajamas, a pet pig who wears a wig and a whale with a polka dotted tail! The kids are charmed when they meet "Jim Along Josie", a marvelous orangutan who has 20 different ways to make you laugh. It gets even sillier when the very cute "Purple People Eater" comes to earth and announces his intention to be a rock star.
Superstar crossover vocalist Sarah Brightman greets the new millennium with a bold sense of her unique musical niche in this live concert, La Luna. Drawing heavily from her same-titled CD, the material touches on images of the moon that reinforce its ambiguity as a force known to draw together "the lunatic, the lover, and the poet" (Brightman's revealing woodsy outfits and tinsel crown do seem to suggest a sort of Titania-like figure out of a New Age Midsummer Night's Dream).
A meld of legendary performers and contemporary artists of today who have been influenced by Ray's music perform in this concert extravaganza.
