Naruse Uta (Narumi Riko) is a "unique" 13 year old child. She possessed the talent to read sheet music even before she could speak, but has now come to the point where she hates playing the piano. Her father was also a piano virtuoso, but mysteriously disappeared from her life at a young age. Because of her father's disappearance Uta's mother had to move out of their posh home and into a far modest working class neighborhood. In this working class neighborhood there is a local grocer. The grocer's son Kikuna Oto (Matsuyama Kenichi) happens to be a budding musician, but lacks the drive to truly succeed. That is until Uta Naruse comes into his life...

Haruna (Haruna Amari) is a lively tomboy in the 5th year at elementary school. One day while playing with Hiroyuki, a boy whom she has known for a long time, they play a game of putting their private parts together. A sex education lesson given by a new teacher, Yagi (Kumiko Aso), makes Haruna suspect that she might be pregnant. Haruna becomes certain of it during summer holidays as her belly grows and she does not feel well. Unable to tell any adult, she decides to have the baby. Haruna's class, led by the prefect, unite to protect Haruna and her baby. Haruna manages to go through the pregnancy without the adults noticing and miraculously gives birth assisted only by the children.
Haruo returns to his hometown for his mother’s second marriage and happens to meet his first love Miyuki in eight years. Haruo still has feelings for her, who left her hometown the day after they made love. Miyuki is back with her daughter Chiharu, after a failed marriage. They end up making love again in eight years, but Miyuki disappears again the next day. Haruo goes to meet Chiharu like Miyuki asked him to and spends the day with her. An awkward company at first, but as time passes he feels a certain responsibility for Chiharu, thinking that she might be his own daughter. Family relationship is changing in today’s Japan, as divorce and remarriage become commonplace. The film describes quietly but sharply how family relationship affects our other relationships through psychological changes in the main character.
