In this Bollywood classic tearjerker, a romance for the ages blooms between the puppeteer Shivraj and the young admirer Pushpa after Shivraj loses the use of his hands and his livelihood. But love turns to resentment when Pushpa begins paying the bills with money made through her budding stage career. Will fierce pride keep them apart, or will Pushpa's faithful agent find a way to bring them together again?
Radha earns a living begging in order to support herself and her crippled and ailing father. They live in a small tenement, under the constant threat of eviction by their landlord for unpaid rent for several months. One day, while begging, Radha meets a young man, Nirmal Chander, who would like to see her improve her status by getting employment, he even goes to the extent of assisting her find work in a mill. He subsequently invites her over to meet his mother, and asks her to marry him, to which she agrees. Nirmal also seeks the permission of her dad. When he goes to get her to make arrangements for their marriage, he finds her and her dad gone.

Uma (Mumtaz Shanti) and Babul (Suresh) are poor and homeless siblings. Both of them have got singing talent but are unable to find any job. Then they meet Nirmal who is younger brother of theater owner Janki Babu. Nirmal persuades his brother to give them a chance. After seeing their talent, Janki Babu also admires Uma and gives her leading role at his theater. Then Nirmal and Uma fall in love with each other and get married. However, Nirmal has a misunderstanding that his elder brother also likes Uma and wanted to marry her. He does not approve of Uma's job in theater but himself is struggling to find a job. Uma leaves the job and they also also leave Janki babu's house. Now they have a small baby daughter, Manju. But soon they see the true face of poverty and struggle to cope with it.
Sunil Kohli and Sonia are attracted to each other, and both get married. They go to spend their honeymoon, and on the way there spend a night at Sunil's boss' bunglow, which is occupied by his son, Dhiraj Kapoor. Dhiraj welcomes the two, and allows them to spend the night. Next morning, when Sunil leaves the house, Dhiraj attempts to molest Sonia and have sex with her. He is interrupted with Sunil's return, a fight ensues, and Dhiraj is killed. The police arrest Sunil, and sentence him to prison for life. On the way to the prison, a fight breaks out amongst the prisoners, and the driver loses control of the van, a accident results, and all occupants are killed. Devastated at these turn of event, Sonia relocates and becomes a school-teacher, and lives as a widow. Years later, she finds out that Sunil is still alive, has got a new identity as Sudhir, is married to rich and attractive Chandni, and even has a child. Written by rAjOo ([email protected])
A romance masquerading as a debate on art. A painter, a writer and a singer meet three women, each of whom loves one of the art forms they practise. Unfortunately, they are mismatched. The ensuing misunderstandings are resolved only after their respective soul mates have been discovered and their marriages arranged. This is one the the last independent films by A. Chakrabarty, formerly of Bombay Talkies and the man who discovered Dilip Kumar in his first film, Jwar Bhata (1944).
