Dogged investigator Allegra Dill returns to her border-town Texas home after her sister is murdered. What begins as a search for a killer turns into an all-consuming fight to bring her corrupt hometown to its knees.
15 year-old Iranian-American, Roya, hasn't grown into her features. Awkward and graceless, she spends her time fantasizing about becoming a famous model, giving mock interviews to herself. Roya wants nothing more than for her mother to tell her she's beautiful. Unfortunately, her mother has some very strict requirements.
For Shirin, being part of a perfect Persian family isn't easy. Acceptance eludes her from all sides: her family doesn't know she's bisexual, and her ex-girlfriend, Maxine, can't understand why she doesn't tell them. Even the six-year-old boys in her moviemaking class are too ADD to focus on her for more than a second. Following a family announcement of her brother's betrothal to a parentally approved Iranian prize catch, Shirin embarks on a private rebellion involving a series of bisexual escapades, while trying to decipher what went wrong with Maxine.
Leila takes a break from her decade long relationship with partner Sadie, and begins to explore her own bisexuality.
