Filmmaker Ryosuke Hashiguchi's heartbreaking drama delves into Tokyo's underbelly, following street urchin and hustler Tatsuru (Yoshihiko Hakamada), who comes of age under the dark cover of night in a city known for splash and lights. His only trusted ally is his pal Shinichirô (Masashi Endo), who joins him on his escapades picking up girls and making money off johns, but who also may be his one true love.
