A human drama based on the true story of Satoshi Fukushima, a professor at the University of Tokyo's Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, who became the world's first deafblind university professor, and his mother, Reiko. Reiko lives with her teacher husband and three sons in a town in the Kansai region. The youngest son, Satoshi, who lost his sight when he was a child, grew up with a naivete surrounded by the love of his family and went to high school at a school for the blind in Tokyo, but at the age of 18 he also lost his hearing. Wracked by loneliness in a world of darkness and silence, Satoshi was given hope by Reiko's new means of communication, "finger Braille," which she devised based on her daily life with him. Mother and son courageously overcome difficulties one by one and open up new possibilities in their lives.

Kato, the owner of Cafe Phalam in front of Kyoto's Nijo Station, goes back to his apartment above the cafe after finishing up work for the day. When he is about to play his guitar, Kato himself suddenly appears on his TV screen and begins speaking. "I'm the future me. Two minutes in the future." The TV in Kato's room and the TV in the cafe below are somehow connected with a time difference of two minutes. Confused, Kato goes to the TV in the cafe as told by the two-minutes-into-the-future version of himself, and begins talking to himself in the past. The cafe staff and regular customers enjoy the phenomenon. Discovering the existence of the "Time TV," they face the monitors toward each other eager to learn about what lies in the distant future.

Kato, a scriptwriter, is in love with Miho—but he can never manage to muster up enough courage to make the relationship anything more than a platonic friendship. Seemingly oblivious to Kato's feelings for her, Miho is always calling him up and spilling her guts about her own love problems. She's in love with someone else, it turns out, but Kato swallows his pride—hearing about it all is almost too much to bear, but he wants to be with Miho as much as he can. In the meantime, the script he's working on for a TV drama mirrors a lot of his relationship with Miho. One day, Kato's friends tell him that his views on love are all mistaken, that he shouldn't delude himself into thinking that his dead-end crush on Miho will go anywhere. Emboldened and motivated, Kato finally decides to tell Miho exactly how he feels.

Inspector Totsugawa of the First Investigation Division goes to Tsuruoka in Yamagata to attend the wedding of the son of Inspector Mukai, his former colleague who now works for the Yamagata Prefectural Police. While sightseeing at Mt. Haguro after the ceremony, he notices a young woman drawing him in her sketchbook. She introduces herself as Yuka Shiraishi and says she came to draw the Dewa Sanzan. Signing the drawing of Totsugawa next to the five-story pagoda with her initial, a 'Y' in the corner, she gives it to him as a present. The next morning, the corpse of a young woman who has been stabbed is discovered in a forest in Tsuruoka. When Totsugawa, on his way back, hears that a sketchbook signed with a 'Y' was found at the scene, he follows Mukai there. However, the body is not Yuka, the woman Totsugawa had met, and while no items pointing to her identity are found, the sketchbook is the same one Yuka had the day before.

Mariko Okano’s boyfriend Junichi Nagata leaves suddenly to become a volunteer teacher in a remote country. Mariko and Junichi’s families are both left wondering why he departed so quickly, without discussing his plans with them first. The next day, a woman’s charred body is discovered in a warehouse. The woman turns out to be Ayako Oshima, the mother of a student who was suspected of arson in a warehouse blaze 15 years ago. Oddly, Mariko had been trapped in that warehouse fire with another student, but was saved by Junichi. However, the other student died in the blaze. Soon after, Mariko receives a letter from Junichi, in which he confesses to a crime Mariko was not aware of. Are the two fires related? And what was the crime Junichi confessed to?
