Akiko Yagi

Sawada Kyoka is a yoga instructor with a rough personality and constantly fights with her father after her mother passed away. Due to having to spend the time taking care of her father, Kyoka doesn't have much time for herself and has very little desire to get married. Meanwhile, Sawada Rintaro is Kyoka's father and works as a freelance lexicographer. After the passing of his wife, Rintaro hasn't been living well which frustrates Kyoka. One day, Rintaro decides to find his second life partner and wants to start a "double marriage life" with Kyoka.

After the branch's shutdown, he will work again at the bank's headquarters. Hiroshi Kataoka is embarrassed by the situation. Shocked, Kanji lies to his family that he was going on a business trip to Switzerland, where he meets and finds a kindred spirit in Shiori Meguro. Meanwhile, Mariko suspects that her husband may be having an affair, and finds herself falling in forbidden love with her daughter’s fiancé, Haruki Hino.

Set in a five star Tokyo hotel on New Year's Eve, the film follows the misadventures of various hotel staff and guests in the run-up to midnight. The plot involves numerous characters, the different problems or situations they face in the run-up to midnight, and the ways that these different storylines interact and are resolved. The film is reminiscent of the Hollywood screwball comedies of 1930s and 1940s, and explicitly references the 1932 film Grand Hotel, whose plot also followed the interlinked lives of various characters in a fictional hotel over a short period.

Unfortunately, Yanagisawa isn’t licensed to build homes, so they call in the wife’s father, a retired carpenter, to help out. When Yanagisawa’s contemporary ideas clash with the old carpenter’s traditional Japanese methods, the project becomes a huge mess.
