In 1984, Academy Award winning composter Giorgio Moroder introduced Fritz Lang’s science fiction epic Metropolis to a new generation of moviegoers. Working in collaboration with film archives around the world, he supervised a special reconstruction of the film, with color tinting, fewer inter-titles, and newly restored footage. A pioneer in the field of digital music, Moroder backed this special edition with a throbbing new score, punctuated with pop songs from some of the biggest stars of the early MTV era: Freddie Mercury, Pat Benatar, Adam Ant, Bonnie Tyler, Loverboy and other.

Young William Tenson MacPhab’s stock portfolio has crashed like the housing market in 21st Century Nevada and he’s lost a whole Seven Pounds. And like many an investor, who left his investment decisions in the hands of others, Tenson holds Astor Terbanks, a steel magnate, responsible for Tenson’s stupid investment decisions. Through a trick, he manages to get an appointment with the steel magnate, but when the latter hears he’s only lost Seven Pounds, he has his stupid ass thrown out. Now Tenson is bent on revenge. Apparently having nothing to do with his life and suffering from some psychological problems as well as being stupid, he takes an ad out in the paper threatening to give the old steel king seven slaps in the coming week to teach him a lesson in respect. Terbank’s daughter Daisy is horrified by this threat from the loon and does everything to protect her father. It’s all in vain: Her father gets slapped every day, and every day, it makes headlines.

Marta Eggerth is cast as Christine, a young singer who aspires to find out who her father was. Her odyssey brings her to the court of a mythical kingdom, where she is romanced by handsome lieutenant Walter (Johannes Heesters). He is warned not to lose his heart to a "commoner," but all turns out all right when King Serenissimus (Otto Tressler) turns out to be Christine's long-lost daddy. Hofkonzert was designed as a comeback for Marta Eggerth, whose star had eclipsed by the mid-1930s.

In the very oldfashioned town of Ostend suddenly 13 suitcases are delivered to the hotel, with a note, that O.F. will be here soon and needs 6 rooms (the hotel just has five). This event, probably the biggest in 300 years, starts a small wave of modernisation, yet everybody is wondering who O.F. is. Journalist Stix and architect Stark have an idea how to use this event. They proclaim, that O.F. is a former citizen of the town, who became a millionaire abroad. They tell their fellow citizens that the town still needs modernisation, like better hotels, nightclubs, shops, etc. And soon, Ostend is a boomtown, then a capital. The architect, responsible for the new buildings is finaly allowed to marry the mayor's daughter, while Stix marries the cabaret star and the widowed mayor his new secretary. The only problem is, O.F. hasn't shown up, while finance experts from all over the world are trying to solve the depression problem.

The drama begins when handsome Johannes Riemann (as Richard de la Croix) is summoned to an asylum, to check on insane brother Alfred Abel (as Andreas de la Croix). As we see in a later flashback, the alluring Pola Negri (as Sappho) left the innocent Mr. Abel, a lowly engineer, for his well-heeled boss Albert Steinrück (as George Bertink); this helped drive Mr. Abel insane. Presently, when Mr. Riemann finds Ms. Negri, she leaves Mr. Steinruck and moves in with Riemann.

But the leader of the "Carlist - Movement", a gang of desperados, kidnaps her, she falls for him and he proposes. But the English ambassador is trying to improve the Spanish-English relations and sent his spies after her, getting the information about her future groom, and the Spanish government is very interested in getting ahead.

When Hedda is about to appear on stage in Ostende she borrows a piece of jewelry from her fiancé, de Rochord. When a gang of thieves steals it, he calls off the engagement, but Hedda solves the crime singlehandedly and the two are reunited. The George Eastman Museum holds a 35mm acetate positive print.
