For the career of her husband, Irina has renounced her journalistic career and has become a housewife. After countless job-related processions, the two return to their hometown of Munich to finally start a family. When Reinhard has to leave for New York in the short term and leaves his wife with empty accounts and a debt mountain, Irina is forced to take the initiative for the first time. She founds a housekeeping agency. Her old school friend Frank stands by her side.
This drama is taken from Thomas Mann's 1903 semi-autobiographical novel. Tonio (Jean Claude Brialy) is an aspiring writer and the son of a rigid aristocratic father and a music-loving mother. Wandering throughout Germany and Italy to "find himself," Tonio frequently remembers his childhood experiences in a series of flashbacks. The highlight of the film is the expert lensing by cinematographer Wolf Wirth. Erika Mann, the daughter of the late poet and author, collaborated with Ennio Flaiano on the screenplay.
The Eurovision Song Contest 1957 was the second edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Frankfurt-am-Main, West Germany and was organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Deutsches Fernsehen (ARD). The contest was held at the Großer Sendesaal des hessischen Rundfunks on Sunday 3 March 1957 and was hosted by German actress Anaid Iplicjian. Like the first edition, the competition was still mainly a radio programme, but there was a noticeable increase in the number of people with televisions this year.
