Retired judge Sushobhan Chowdhury has three sons Arun, Barun and Tarun and a daughter called Hasi. Among them Arun is married. Then Sushobhan finds a girl for Barun. But in the day of the marriage he came to know that Barun is already married. He had already tied the knot with a girl called Shampa who is working in the same office. So, Sushobhan arranges two weddings simultaneously. He calls Tarun to do the unfinished wedding and asks Barun to marry Shampa. After the marriage Shampa faces trouble from Barun. But other family members support her. Shampa again joins her office. Then Barun tries to insult Shampa and makes lots of allegations. After lot of conspiracies Sushobhan misunderstands Shampa. But at last Barun realises his faults and tells everything to Sushobhan.

Jamuna Bai is the daughter of a famous courtesan named Kamala Bai who was known in Benaras for dance. Although Jamuna had learnt music from her childhood, she was never willing to pursue her mother's profession. This led to the mother-daughter duo suffer from poverty and affront from commoners. Chandrakanta, a rich businessman sees Jamuna and falls in love with her. After a few meetings Jamuna starts liking him too. One day Jamuna finds a desolate boy child on the banks of the river and decides to raise him. Chandrakanta stands beside her when the society blames her for the act. They get married. However Jamuna stays back at Benaras and faces extreme hardships to raise the kid and is forced to step into her mother's shoes. This leads to a confront between her and Chandrakanta who leaves her and goes away. Jamuna leaves her kid with her guruji and starts living apart for the fear of her kid knowing her identity.

The story is as Interpol agent Himadri gets into Sea king Company by means of faking love with Nina, the daughter of Mr. Sehgal. Himadri's actual plan is to get access to the secret documents of Mr. Sehgal who has an alliance with Mr. Sato. Sato has a chart of the gold treasures dipped under the ocean and Kamakazi, the Japanese Smuggler is after it. Interpol plans to catch Kamakazi through Mr. Sehgal but unfortunately Himadri gets exposed and he is thrown out of the company. In the meantime a businessman gets kidnapped by Kamakazi whose daughter Mari is instructed to seduce Himadri. Helpless Mari agrees in order to save her family. Himadri and Mari, in spite of knowing each other's background story falls in love. After some hard-hitting action, finally Interpol successfully busts kamakazi's racket but the movie ends on a somewgat tragic note as Mari dies in this process and Himadri lives a lonely life.

Shasanka (Sreeram Lgoo) is a retired teacher who lives with his wife and two daughters. The family is thrown into an uproar after he goes out for a walk and disappears from their lives. Each member of the family reviews her final hours and days with him to try and discover what, if anything led to his disappearance. The only clue anyone is able to discover is an envelope on which is written the name of one of his former students. When they visit her, however, she is unable (or unwilling) to enlighten them. Why did he go for a walk during a heavy rainstorm? Where did he go? Bengali filmmaker Mrinal Sen isn't saying.

Rudraksh is a man full of vices yet Ravi does his best to finalize the wedding. Ravi meets Usha aka Jhilik and falls in love with her. Ravi finds out the truth that Usha is Jhilik the day Rudrasksh goes to marry her. Usha condemns Ravi for his cowardice and that makes him defy everything and marry her. Rudraksh and his family are arrested for claiming dowry."

When an Untouchable wins the elections for mayor in his small village in northeastern India, deadly rioting forces an impoverished couple to escape to Calcutta where they can hopefully find work. Instead, they end up sleeping on the streets until they have a chance at earning a little income -- a man has asked them to take his herd of pigs across a fast-moving river. The current is dangerous, and worse, the wife is pregnant and this would not be an easy task even if she were not. Undaunted and desperate, the couple accept the job and enter the river to face their destiny. Both the acting and the cinematography and music are excellent in this slow-paced, but engaging drama from director Goutam Ghose.

Jadunath a labour union leader, of Jethia Jute Mill in Kolkata has been given death sentence, for the murders of owner Jethia’s brother, and another worker, even though he never committed them. Before dying, he pledges his eyes for donation. However when the mill owner finds about this he tries to manoeuvre the medical system to get both the eyes for his blind son. Meanwhile the doctor discovers that the donation papers provided by the Jethia to be fake. Soon the mill workers get united behind the widow of Jadunath and hold protest rally against the injustice.

But, Satindra, Bhupendra's lawyer son ruins all his plans and reveals his truth before the court. Bhupendra is given life imprisonment. The mother and the son are united.

No one was aware of his decision. At the day of his sister's marriage when everyone was enjoying, Saheb was fighting for his life. Suddenly his sister-in-law came to know everything and became very upset. All his brothers were imposing allegation on him for that unaccounted money, then his sister-in-law exposed everything and made them quiet. At last, Saheb's incompetent father went to hospital and mourned for his neglected child.

Caught between the two friends who have opposite ambitions in life, Heeru wonders which path would bring contentment in one's life. However Heeru loses control of his life and slowly realizes that his life has become a mirror of Chandranath's life.

Played out in real time, several complex family dramas intersect in the landscape of the Himalayan foothills, allowing the Bengali auteur to examine the class and generational differences of postcolonial India while celebrating the hopes of a society in transition.

The title means "Three Daughters", and the film's original Indian release contained three stories, with three central female characters linking the stories together. 'The Postmaster' concerns an orphan girl who grows attached to the postmaster she is caring for after he teaches her to read and write. 'Monihara' is a supernatural tale about a woman obsessed with the jewels her husband buys for her. 'Samapti' follows a young man who falls for an unconventional girl from his new village instead of his arranged bride, the daughter of a respectable family. The international release did not include 'Monihara', and was released as 'Dui Kanya', or "Two Daughters".
