Bulgaria, 1930s, small provincial town. Vyara Zadgorska returned to her hometown as a doctor after six years of study in France. Along the way she meets the landowner Assen Valchev, who is fascinated by her, but she is in love with someone else - the lawyer Kiril Donchev.
Sashko and Tanya are two lovers who want to go on a holiday at the seaside. In order to earn money, Sasho starts working in a brigade digging a well in the yard of Chief Krumov's villa. The workers accidentally discover the remains of human skeletons, a tin ring and several buttons, most likely belonging to participants in the September Uprising of 1923. To avoid complications, everyone decides to keep quiet. However, Sashko decides to break his silence and tell the truth, for which he pays with his life.
The action of the epic film takes place in the second half of World War II. The plot focuses on the liberation of European countries from German occupation and the anti-fascist activities of the communist parties of these countries. After the victory at Stalingrad, a decisive turn occurred during the war. The main aim is the rallying of all patriotic forces, the creation of a national anti-fascist front in the struggling countries. The swift offensive of the Soviet troops, problems with the opening of a second front, major operations and the offensive of the Soviet army lead to the liberation of Europe. Rebellions are rising in different countries - such as the heroic uprising in Warsaw, in Slovenia, Bucharest and other cities. Brave heroes who performed immortal feats in the name of the happiness of mankind and freedom.
1920's. A young girl - teacher comes from the city to a small, poor village to teach the children. There is a medic in the village. Without being a doctor, he has taken up the noble deed to help people. The "miracle" of the village is two twins - brother and sister, Lefter and Leftera. Both of them resell village land. Everyone is feeling the pressure from the twins. This causes the eruption of a violent and bloody riot.
The film takes us back into the times of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom - 13th century. The Bulgarian Emperor - Tsar Ioan Assen - is trying through several marriages to enlarge the State and to support the peace in it.
The days of antifascist fight are over. In an orphanage for gifted children lives Milcho. The music helps him to escape from the real world to the world of memories. He remembers the days that the police officer arrested his mother for hiding a fugitive. A bright mark has left people that Milcho met, looking for his mother: the good old musician, the gypsy Shukri - raw natural talent, the beautiful Mila, and the Poet. They help Milcho to live through his pain. A piano concert of Brahms is playing by the young artist.
The film shows Bulgaria after the First World War - different destinies, different turns on both sides of the political barricade. A life full of contradictions and passion.
XVII century, Bulgaria is under Ottoman rule. Four men break into the house of the shepherd Karaivan, raping and killing his wife in full view of their child, Maria. To protect his daughter and to enact revenge, he raises Maria as a son, teaching her to fight and kill. But as Maria grows up, she longs for a different life.
The movie is set in the years of WWII. The partisans Stefan, Rado and Velko await a plane with weapon. The three men are trapped. Velko is killed. Rado and Stefan go to the Silent one. Only she knows the location where the weapon should be received. Army regiments arrive and a shootout begins. The plane drops the weapons. Stefan covers the others with machine gun while the Silent one and Rado leave with the weapon to the contingent
During World War II, a plane transfers Bulgarian antifascists from the USSR to Bulgaria. They jump with parachutes. The eighth paratrooper heads a guerilla group. In the group, there are doubts about the existence of a traitor. Initially, an innocent person is accused, but later the real traitor is caught and killed. Still, the most dangerous enemies of the guerillas are the colonel and the troops stationed in the nearby village. The battle between them and the guerillas is won by the latter who continue to fight for their cause.
