The Humorist is a film about a week in the life of Boris Arkadiev, a fictional Soviet stand-up comedian. Boris is tormented not only by external oppression and censorship but also by his own insecurities that poison all his relationships.
A personal shopper in Paris refuses to leave the city until she makes contact with her twin brother who previously died there. Her life becomes more complicated when a mysterious person contacts her via text message.
Paris in the 1920s. Marguerite Dumont is a wealthy woman with a passion for music and the opera. For years, she has performed regularly for a circle of guests. But Marguerite sings tragically out of tune and no one has ever told her. Her husband and her close friends have always encouraged her in her illusions. Things become very complicated the day she gets it into her head to perform in front of a genuine public, at the Opera.

Je to film sestávající ze šesti povídek, které většinou černě humornou, ironickou, mnohdy i trpce hořkou formou vyprávějí o jednom dávném prokletí, lidské nevěře, podivných úchylkách, nečekaném zázraku i pokryteckém odpuštění. Mají svou vlastní vypointovanou stavbu, specifickou atmosféru i způsob zpracování, a přesto jedna druhé předává motivy vzájemně spolu komunikující a pozorující tytéž věci z různých úhlů.
