Barents Sea, August 12th, 2000. During a Russian naval exercise, and after suffering a serious accident, the K-141 Kursk submarine sinks with 118 crew members on board. While the few sailors who are still alive barely manage to survive, their families push for accurate information and a British officer struggles to obtain from the Russian government a permit to attempt a rescue before it is late. But general incompetence are against all their efforts.

The drama chronicles the affair between Inger, a young Danish woman from Copenhagen, and Kwame, an illegal immigrant from Ghana, that she meets while volunteering at a homeless shelter. Despite their cultural differences, and the disapproval of Inger’s own mother, the two quickly develop a strong bond and move in together. Everything seems perfect and serendipitous, but then Inger discovers a devastating secret that Kwame has kept hidden.
It’s summer in Copenhagen, it’s a time of endless days and careless nights. Simon is a 23-year-old medical student. He and his friends party and drink and chase girls and wake up the next day to do the whole thing all over again. But it’s also a time of unrest and change among the boys. Dreams shatter, love hurts, and friendships dissolve.
The film takes place over a day for two young people's lives. There they meet each other and the a number of people in the streets, each in their own way in a quiet humdrum tone tells about the need to be present. The film is simultaneously both a tribute to the city of Copenhagen and life in general.
