Boyd Rice

Founded in 1966 in California by a former organist and lion tamer named Anton Szandor LaVey, the Church of Satan has often been surrounded by mysteries, scandals and moral panics. Some of today’s active members of the church and other free-styled Satanists will share their views, memories, ritual practices and personal stories about how they got involved with Satanic religion and what are the false myths that still surround the movement. An immersive journey into one the most fascinating phenomena of American religious pluralism.

A man picks himself up off a barren landscape and begins to walk. An electronic soundtrack pulsates ominously. Unable to get a lift while hitchhiking, the man turns to the sky to bellow the eternal existential question, “What do you want me to do?” He answers himself by conducting 'Magic Ceremony 777' in front of a small and blackened winged-demon all the while invoking the second coming...

The film that gives this DVD its title, "Live In Osaka", is a recording of NON's legendary 1989 live performance in Osaka, Japan. The band consisted of Boyd Rice, along with a star-studded line up including Michael Moynihan, Rose McDowall, Douglas P and Tony Wakeford.

A VHS tape collecting Boyd Rice's various television appearances on talk shows, news programs and documentaries. This tape was originally made by Rice himself, for a couple of friends, but was quickly bootlegged, and later released by Predatory Instinct Productions.

The film portrays the life of a hitman with an interest in such things as fascism, S&M, collecting erotic literature, Doctor Who, and philosophy. The plot concerns the assassin being given a contract on a controversial author.

An experimental film by Boyd Rice "…like a hallucinatory motion picture Rorschach test, incorporating sound, rhythm, and archetypal symbology."

But what is the Church of Satan? Who is Anton LaVey? Where is he from? Why does he do that? It does not take much to imagine the worst. Orgiastic ceremonies, where one revels in the blood of virgins, moonlight lamb sacrifices, noise concerts in the basement of a historical building… No, really nothing that amusing among the activities in the Church of Satan. Anton LaVey is nothing like a horned Charles Manson, and his path is all the more unexpected. Nick Bougas allows us to discover the artist, the musician, the philosopher, all through hallucinatory images retrieved from archives, making this rare documentary only two years before the author of the Satanic Bible disappeared.

Portrait of Charles Manson. Contains various interviews with J.R. Bruun, Boyd Rice, Nikolas Schreck and other persons with an interest in Charles Manson, inter cut with a barrage of weird clips from movies and television.

This seven-track live performance from NON (whose incarnation on this disc is comprised of Boyd Rice, Rose McDowall, Tony Wakeford, Douglas Pearce, and Michael Moynihan) took place on the 3rd of July 1989 in Osaka, Japan, and truly captures NON’s frequent visit into martial and “occult fascist” territory, with favorites such as Total War, Might Is Right, and others. If you weren’t old enough -- or simply not in Japan at the time -- this performance is a must-see for those wishing to get a taste of Satanism (for once) represented proudly and productively on a music stage.

On August 8, 1988, the world’s first and largest Satanic rally took place. Ripped from a video featuring Satanist talking about creating a New World Order and killing off the masses.
