Bruce Springsteen: Between the Lull and the Storm movie was released Jun 14, 2011 by the United States Dist. studio. How different the career and music of Springsteen could have turned out had it not been for his legally enforced recording hiatus, witnessed between the release of his celebrated Born to Run album and the delayed but extraordinary follow-up Darkness on the Edge of Town, almost 3 years later. Bruce Springsteen: Between the Lull and the Storm movie Despite the undeniable strength of his 1975 opus, during this break from the studio, many wondered if the future of rock n' roll was a one trick pony who had somehow managed to capture the imagination of the media for a brief moment, but in reality was just another "new Bob Dylan" who got lucky.

What can be said about Born To Run that hasn't already been said or written over the years? The album took Springsteen from punk to rock star, from rags to riches, from boy to man, educating his crowd in lessons of love, broken dreams and cars. This documentary details the making of the album and covers everything from the pressure that Springsteen was working under to produce a hit album for Columbia Records to working with the band in the studio to achieve the sound he wanted for the album. Finally the "Hype" of Springsteen that threatened to overtake the value of the album and the artist is also discussed. Featuring vintage footage and new interviews, it's a marvelous glimpse into the creation of one of the top ten albums of all time. There are also three performances from 1973 recorded in Los Angeles-"Spirit in the Night" "Wild Billy's Circus Story" and "Thundercrack".

The Springsteen and E Street Band performances were compressed to two hours in length due to the multi-act nature of the concerts. Especially at the beginning of his sets, Springsteen accomplished this by stripping down the songs, removing elongated outros and false endings from the likes of "Born in the U.S.A." and "Badlands". In doing so, the style of the Vote for Change shows foreshadowed the next E Street outing, the 2007 Magic Tour, when Springsteen adopted a similar approach.

The final video component is “Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: The River Tour, Tempe 1980,” a new film produced from footage professionally filmed in 1980 using four cameras and recorded in multitrack audio. The film features 24 songs — 2 hours, 40 minutes — on 2 DVDs from Springsteen’s November 5, 1980 concert at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. Widely regarded as one of Springsteen’s finest performances, this intense show features early live versions of over half of ‘The River’ songs.

Roy plays the piano intro before "The River" and "Once Upon A Time In The West" as a bridge between that song and "Badlands". "Growin' Up" features the spaceman story. Bruce sings the opening of "Come A Little Bit Closer" as an introduction to "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)". Johnny Burnette and the Rock 'n Roll Trio's "Lonesome Train" is included in the "Detroit Medley" for the first time. The medley does include the "all aboard" segment, but "I Hear A Train" is dropped. The MC that introduces Springsteen is the legendary Washington-area DJ Don "Cerphe" Colwell.

The documentary focuses on the creation of The River, a thrilling double album that featured Bruce Springsteen concert 1981Springsteen first top 10 hit “Hungry Heart” along with such classics as “Cadillac Ranch,” “Point Blank,” “Out In The Street” and the haunting, cautionary title track. It also will include previously unreleased archival footage from the River Tour, which raised the singer-songwriter’s profile worldwide, and more than 100 recently unearthed photos of Springsteen and the E Street Band during the recording sessions. Also featured are previously unheard demos and outtakes from the 14-month recording process, including such songs as “Stray Bullet,” “Chain Lightning,” “The Time That Never Was,” “Cindy” and “Take ‘Em as They Come.”

We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions was released in the U.S. as a DualDisc, containing a CD on one side and a DVD on the other. The CD side merely contains the album. The DVD contains the album in PCM stereo (there's no 5.1 mix, although given the big-band nature of this session, this album would have sounded great in Surround Sound), along with two bonus tracks, the rollicking "Buffalo Gals" and the moody, soulful "How Can I Keep from Singing." Both bonus cuts are excellent and should have been on the album proper. There is also a 30-minute video program that chronicles some of the recording of the album, but it's not a documentary: it's more of a performance film with commentary, and while it could have been longer or had more commentary, it's still quite enjoyable. Finally, We Shall Overcome also was released separately as a vinyl LP.]

THE highest quality audience shot video of all times! My Newark film has extraordinary image quality. You won't see anything like this on any other audience shot film! Newark was much more limited editing wise because I didn't have many other sources but my shoot is so good and so steady (only at some times stupid periscopers and other "mobile phone people" got in the way) that with additional footage from friends I was able to create a mighty fantastic film.
