Carol & Company is a comedy program airing on NBC-TV in the United States during 1990 and 1991. Carol & Company applied an unusual repertory approach to television comedy. Every week, Carol Burnett and her fellow players, Peter Krause, Jeremy Piven, Meagen Fay, Terry Kiser, Anita Barone, and Richard Kind, performed a different half-hour comedy playlet. Only the performers remained the same from week to week; there were no ongoing characters or plots, although there were guest stars from time to time; Betty White was one who made an appearance. In 1991, Carol's cohort, Tim Conway made a cameo appearance as audience member in an episode, "That Little Extra Something." Carol & Company began as a midseason replacement in January 1990, and was subsequently picked up for a full season and ran until July 1991. In 1990 Swoosie Kurtz won an Emmy for her appearance in the episode titled Reunion.

The second television adaptation of Once Upon a Mattress was broadcast on December 12, 1972, on CBS. This production, videotaped in color, included original Broadway cast members Burnett, Gilford and White, and also featured Bernadette Peters as Lady Larken, Ken Berry as Prince Dauntless, Ron Husmann as Harry, and Wally Cox as The Jester. It was directed by Ron Field and Dave Powers. Again, several songs were eliminated and characters were combined or altered. Since the parts of the Minstrel and the Wizard were cut from this adaptation, a new prologue was written with Burnett singing "Many Moons Ago" as a bedtime story.

The musical story of THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA, this television adaption of the 1959 Broadway hit was videotaped in black and white in front of a live audience and featured Burnett, Bova, Gilford, and White from the original Broadway cast, as well as new principals Bill Hayes as the Minstrel, Shani Wallis as Lady Larken and Elliott Gould (in his first appearance on any screen) as the Jester. Due to the reduced running time of 90 minutes, several songs and scenes were either cut or shortened. The conflict concerning Sir Harry and Lady Larkin was downplayed so that they were married in secret.

Upon Burnett's being signed to an exclusive contract with CBS-TV in the summer of 1962, it was announced that she would headline a televised broadcast of Calamity Jane over the 1962-3 television season: Burnett's Calamity Jane special would in fact not air until the autumn of 1963 after being taped that summer, the time frame permitting Burnett to reprise the title role onstage in a State Fair Music Theater ( Dallas ) production whose two-week run commenced 24 June 1963. On 10 July 1963, Burnett and her castmates from the Dallas stage production - including Art Lund as Wild Bill - performed Calamity Jane at CBS Studio 50 ( NYC ), with the play performed three performances (non stop) before a live audience: CBS-TV taped all three run-throughs, one of which was broadcast as Burnett's debut television special 12 November 1963 .

Burnett was then a regular on The Garry Moore Show and Andrews had appeared as a guest twice, performing the song "Big D" from the musical The Most Happy Fella in the first appearance; and in the show's 1961 Christmas special, she did a number with Burnett and fellow guest Gwen Verdon plus an early performance of "My Favorite Things" (three years before she performed it as Maria while filming The Sound of Music).
