Nacho Libre is loosely based on the story of Fray Tormenta ("Friar Storm"), aka Rev. Sergio Gutierrez Benitez, a real-life Mexican Catholic priest who had a 23-year career as a masked luchador. He competed in order to support the orphanage he directed.

Roddy Piper fought Buff Bagwell in a boxing match, The Jersey Triad (DDP, Kanyon, & Bam Bam Bigelow) defended the WCW World Tag Team Championships against Saturn & Chris Benoit, The No Limit Soldiers had a rematch against The West Texas Rednecks, David Flair defended the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship against Dean Malenko, Rick Steiner defended the WCW World Television Championship against Van Hammer, and Ernest Miller wrestled Disco Inferno. There was also a "Junkyard Invitational" for the WCW Hardcore Trophy involving 14 competitors.
World War 3 1998 took place on November 22, 1998 from The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan. There was a double main event with the Three Ring, 60 Man Battle Royal to earn a WCW World Heavyweight Title shot as the first and the second featuring Diamond Dallas Page defending the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship against Bret Hart. Other scheduled matches were Chris Jericho defending the WCW World Television Championship against Bobby Duncum, Jr., a rematch between Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, a rubber match of Rick Steiner vs Scott Steiner, Juventud Guerrera defending the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Billy Kidman, Perry Saturn & Kaz Hayashi vs Ernest Miller & Sonny Onoo, Stevie Ray vs Konnan, and Glacier vs Wrath.
Fall Brawl 1998: War Games took place on September 13, 1998 from the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The main event was a WarGames match, in which Team nWo Hollywood (Hollywood Hogan, Bret Hart & Stevie Ray), Team nWo Wolfpac (Kevin Nash, Sting & Lex Luger), and Team WCW (Diamond Dallas page, Roddy Piper & The Warrior) all competed for a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Halloween Havoc. Under card matches that night included Scott Hall vs Konnan, Dean Malenko vs Curt Hennig, Raven vs Saturn (again...) in (another) Raven's Rules match, Juventud Guerrera defending the WCW Cruiserweight Championship against Silver King, Rick Steiner vs Scott Steiner (a match held over from Road Wild), Norman Smiley vs Ernest Miller, Chris Jericho defending the WCW World Television Championship against a Goldberg impersonator, and The Dancing Fools against The British Bulldog & Jim Neidhart.
