The first half tells the story of marathon runner Kanakuri Shiso, who became one of the first Japanese nationals to participate in the Olympics in Stockholm in 1912. The second half features Tabata Masaji, the coach who laid the foundations of Japanese swimming and helped bring the games to Tokyo for the first time in 1964.

The Akaza family runs a construction company in Tokyo. Shinosuke (Yo Oizumi) works for his father Shinobu (Takashi Sasano) and his younger sister Momoko (Aoi Miyazaki) drives a big truck for their family business. The family is always energetic and lively. One day, Momoko tells her family that she got pregnant by her boyfriend, but she had an abortion. Momoko doesn't reveal anything else about her boyfriend. Shinosuke becomes engraged and hits Momoko. Momoko also lashes back at her older brother. The next day, Momoko leaves their home. Six months later, due to her father's birthday, Momoko decides to go back home. The rest of the Akaza family awaits for Momoko. While they are waiting for her, Momoko’s boyfriend Yuki (Taiga) suddenly visits their home.

Katherine Turner initially accompanied her father, Vice President of the United States, on his official trip to Japan but decided to stay longer to study the Japanese art of flower arrangement for her business back in the States. Yukio Hamaguchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and also a very good friend of Katherine’s father, assigns his nephew Ichiro to escort Katherine during her stay. Ichiro is halfhearted at first but when Katherine’s old friend Maiko becomes the victim of a murder case, Katherine and Ichiro start to reveal their talent as brilliant detectives by untangling clues and solving the case together.
