95-96, year of high school. Only 17 years old, Zahia Ziouni becomes aware that her dream of becoming a conductor and her ambition to make symphonic music accessible to all and in all territories, will go through the creation of an orchestra unique in its diversitý and composition. Helped by her twin sister Fettouma, a cellist, and while she was about to conduct her very first concert, she created the Divertimento orchestra. The latter still exists and, at 44 years old, Zahia is now a conductor recognized worldwide.
Laura becomes a single mom to her two sons after leaving her unfaithful husband. All she really wants are life's simple pleasures: a comfortable home, a job that pays the bills and a nice meal from time to time. But soon she goes into debt and has to depend upon credit just to get by. Despite her best intentions and hard work, even a second job, she just can't make ends meet. Creditors harass her. They want to take everything - even her dignity. Desperate, Laura can see only one solution left to save her family: stage a hold-up.

Alice finds a notebook in her cabin, apparently that of the former mechanic, and on reading its contents – accounts of mechanical problems, sexual conquests and lovelorn emotions – finds, oddly, that they mirror her own concerns. As they make stops at various ports, dealing with life aboard alongside an all-male crew and the swell and pitch of her romantic feelings, the young woman tries to stay on course.
