Velumani (Prabhu), an innocent bank watchman, losses his job after two robbers steal one crore in his bank. In a misunderstanding, an hotel manager thinks that Velumani is a bank manager. Tamizhmani (Goundamani), the hotel server, knows his secret but Velumani manages him by giving him a lottery ticket. The next day, they have the winning numbers and Tamizhmani immediately resigns his job but the lottery ticket was a fake.
Romeo lives a wealthy lifestyle in Bangalore, India, along with his widowed mother. He had received considerable assistance and encouragement from Raj Mohan to dance and sing, and as a result gets very popular with young women. The film tells a story of quadruplets, Michael, Madhanagopal, Kameshwaran, and Raju, all played by Kamal Haasan. Kamal had distinguished each of those characters with his body language and language lingo. Poikkal Kudhirai was based on Crazy Mohan's play Marriage Made in Saloon. Poikkal Kuthirai is an hilarious depiction of how Sambandam (Vaali) — who bets on each and every small thing and wins — and Indu (Ramakrishnan) enter into a bet at a saloon owned by Muthu (Ravindar). The bet is that Indu will win Sambadam's daughter Janaki's (Viji) heart and marry her. If Muthu is successful in his mission, Sambandam will shave half of his moustache for their marriage. If he fails, Muthu will shave his head. Who wins the bet is the film's narrative.
