In order to secure the position of Head of Pediatrics at a top Chicago hospital, a young, highly accomplished, pediatrician agrees to spend a summer setting up a clinic in a small town in the North Carolina mountains. Clashing against the ways of the small community he is forced to deal with the recent loss of his wife while reconnecting with his 9 year old son, and learning a different pace of life.

Although this women's empowerment TV-movie was written by a woman, it examines how a flirtatious night between one woman and three men goes awry quite powerfully, and both sides are equally represented (however, the filmmakers clearly do want the viewer on the girl's side). A college professor says three of her colleagues raped her in a hotel room while away at a seminar, but the men in her life try talking her out of pressing charges.

Powell decides to kidnap the cops and Smith goes along with his crazy scheme. They drive out to a deserted onion field in Bakersfield, where one cop is killed and the other escapes. The film explores the consequences.
