Also on the card, a highly anticipated welterweight rubber match takes place as we see Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Jon Fitch (25-6-1, 1 NC) take on Josh The People's Warrior Burkman (27-10). Both Fitch and Burkman boast a win over each other, so this bout is for bragging rights.

UFC 151: Jones vs. Henderson was a planned mixed martial arts event that was to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on September 1, 2012 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was to be headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout, between champion Jon Jones and former dual-division PRIDE FC and Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson. However, the event was cancelled on August 23, when the UFC announced Henderson was unable to fight due to injury, and Jones refused to take a replacement fight against longtime middleweight antagonist, Chael Sonnen. Initial reports indicated that UFC 152, scheduled to take place three weeks later, would be renamed UFC 151. However, Zuffa announced that UFC 152 would keep its name and UFC 151 would officially be deemed a "lost show."

UFC 133: Evans vs. Ortiz was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on August 6, 2011 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on December 10, 2011 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario. A bout between Lyoto Machida and Phil Davis was linked to the event, but Davis was still recovering from a knee injury and the bout did not occur. A bout between Jon Jones and Rashad Evans was also linked to the event. However, a lingering thumb injury meant Evans missed a title bout with Jones for the second time, as Jones faced Lyoto Machida. Rory MacDonald was expected to face Brian Ebersole at the event, but on November 8, MacDonald pulled out of the bout because of injury and was replaced by Claude Patrick, who was promoted from a preliminary card bout with Rich Attonito. Rich Attonito remained on the card and faced UFC newcomer Jake Hecht.

Strikeforce: Four Men Enter, One Man Survives was a mixed martial arts event held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on November 16, 2007. The event was hosted by Strikeforce in conjunction with bodogFight, and was streamed live on Yahoo! Sports. The event held two distinctions in that: 1) it contained the first MMA tournament sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission and 2) Strikeforce's heavyweight champion was determined during the event in a non-tournament fight.
