Recorded in October of 2019 at the Doug Stanhope Fun House in Bisbee, AZ, and directed by Paul Provenza (director of the 2005 film ‘The Aristocrats’), Last Shot is the first new material recorded by Andrist, a member of The Unbookables and a mainstay of Stanhope’s podcasts, since 2006’s Dumb It Down For The Masses.

Filmed Memorial Day weekend in 2019 at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas (the city where he first performed stand-up comedy) Doug Stanhope goes through a dark wealth of material, uniting topics as disparate as child fatalities, hotel chain misery, and all the things you can do in Indiana.

The Unbookables is a narrative documentary about stand-up comics who have spent their careers pushing limits--on stage and off. Relegated to small venues and touring in a crappy van through the Midwest they careen between the desire to succeed and the reality that there may be nothing left to lose. Road life is far from glamorous: comics come and go and cruel pranks and hard drinking punctuate their obsidian dark comedy on stage. They succeed and fail-spectacularly. When they face being fired for going too far on stage, the conflict culminates in a showdown: compromise or double down?

Recorded in an abandoned factory in the Grünerløkka suburb of Oslo, Norway, this performance is as spontaneous and unhinged as anything Stanhope has ever done. Originally a sewing machine factory converted to a German WWII bunker, the setting for Oslo is anything but conventional. Whereas most comedy specials are filmed on an elaborate stage, Stanhope and Nikon Norway filled a dilapidated industrial space with lights and folding chairs, ultimately allowing the material be the focus of this release.

Not all stand-up comedy is spot-cleaned and pre-packaged for the masses. Like the legends who were born out of smokey, booze-soaked nightclubs of decades past, Doug Stanhope spews his own brand of moral outrage in an unmatched style that borders on self-destruction. Nothing is sacred, no subject off-limits and most importantly nothing is contrived. From critically acclaimed appearances at the Ed

While performing in Austin, Texas, all hell breaks loose when a mildly intoxicated Alex Jones (radio host and film maker) starts heckling a heckler. As tensions grow and the battle of words escalates, Doug struggles to maintain any semblance of control over his show gone wild. As the gig descends into chaos, Stanhope can clearly be heard saying jokingly "you're never opening for me again" to Jones.

In "Deadbeat Hero," Stanhope tackles all of the most relevant and controversial issues of our times: Abortion, "liberty," war, whether blindly supporting the troops is a good thing, the drug war, the Alabama-Mississippi ban on dildos and other sex toys, gay marriage and priest molestations. More bizarre topics include two-head babies, his suicidal cat-lady mother, and more.
