A young girl falls in love with a poor brewer's son. Their relationship is opposed by the girl's father, a rich mobster who has come to town to try to bully his way into the inner circle of Munich's brewery dynasties.
Private detective Josef Matula is with his usual companion, the dog Dr. med. Renz, on the way to Italy, when his rickety minibus engine fails. During his subsequent unplanned stay in a small mountain village he discovers the body of a mountaineer while hiking. He begins to investigate the death and by the look of it, it could be either accident, suicide or even a murder. However, the conspiratorial community is not very enthusiastic about his investigations and when he comes close to solving the case, his own life is in danger too.
Attorney Caroline, the sensitive Judith, the housewife Eva and the affluent entrepreneur Estelle have been friends for 15 years. Once a year, the ladies go on a weekend break, but this time the trip is not a good star: After the death of her husband Arne wants the mourning Judith completed his pilgrimage started to Lourdes. As faithful friends, the three others join her. However, it does not take long for the strains of the tour to cause many a quarrel.
