Halvdan is not a proper Viking. He's having a limp and is regarded by the other kids as a strange loner with no friends, except for the village blacksmith Björn who's taken care of him since Halvdan's father left on a plundering trip. The Svensson family goes on a ski-vacation during the winter holiday. Sune, the family flirt girl-charmer, is yet again pulled into a difficult relationship and his father Rudolf is pushed into difficulty parent challenges while the little brother Håkan is up to no good. The big sister being ashamed of her family and the mother Karin tries to glue the family together and enjoy their vacation.

Erik leaves the big city and travels to a small community deep inside the Swedish forests. In the idyllic village he visits his sister Lisa, whom he has not met in five years. She seems worried about something, and afterwards she disappears without a trace. During Erik's investigations of what happened to her, he realizes that Lisa isn't the first to disappear and that people in the silent society know more than they say.

Mysteriet på Greveholm was the 1996 Swedish Julkalender. It was released on VHS in October 1997 and on DVD 19 November 2001. It was voted as the best Julkalender ever in Aftonbladet in 2007. A video game with the same name was released in 1997, and two sequels in 1998 and 2000. The 2012 Julkalender, Grevens återkomst, is a sequel to Mysteriet på Greveholm.
