In a barren land ruled by oppression and ignorance, a spirited woman driven by hope of a better life must fight against the odds. Agnes is a servant in the house of the county sheriff. There she is constantly sexually harassed by him and treated with contempt by his wife. Agnes falls in love with Natan, a self taught homoeopathic doctor. The sheriff takes revenge on Natan by making it illegal for him to practice his profession. The dramatic relationship between the three main characters ultimately leads to a fatal web of events where a love affair turns into a nightmare of brutality and destruction.

12 hours in the life of a young man who has just received bad news which change everything.

Glerbrot (Broken Glass) is an all Icelandic TV movie from the 1986, featuring Björk in the leading role as Maria - who is somewhat of a rebel and problem child. Her mother died and her father remarried some awful lady, and Maria isn't happy at all. She takes a drug overdose and winds up in a home for other girls with problems, but the two women who run the place turn out to be not quite the ladies they seemed. Maria knows she can't stay there very long, and starts planning her escape.

Around the year 1000 AD warlike people, the so-called "tjuder", roam in northern Scandinavia. As they brutally kill a family in a remote area, including the parents and their little daughter, the family's teenage son, Aigin, observes the slaughter. He manages to flee from these killers and reaches a camp with other Lapps whose inhabitants are worried if he has been able to hide his track. Afraid of the murderous people, they decide to flee to the coast. The boy stays alone to avenge his family's murder. Unfortunately, they get him before he can do anything and force him to lead them to the other Lapps. He guides them but has a plan to destroy the barbarous people before reaching the camp.

The old house acquired by Bjorg (Lilja Thorisdottir) and her husband Petur (Johann Sigurdarson) slowly takes on menacing proportions once Bjorg is left alone for a few days while Petur is away on business. While she is in the house, she experiences terrible visions of faces screaming -- are these ghosts, or unclear memories from her own past? The situation continues to deteriorate, until it looks as though Petur will never return in time to help Bjorg out of her terrors -- if he could help at all.
