Kotani Zenzaemon (Nakamura Baijaku), a ronin who has a side job making brushes in a tenement house in the back alley, is watching Omine (Ando Sakura), who lives with him, from Kichizo (Emoto Tasuku), a resident of the same tenement house and a boatman. is asked to Kichizo and Mine have eloped and got married, but she feels empty in her boring daily life, and she wants to take a break by crossing the bridge over the river. On the other hand, Kichizo forbids him from crossing the bridge, fearing that his whereabouts will be known to others. Zenzaemon superimposes the appearance of these two people on the appearance of his former self and his wife, whom he killed himself.

Sachiko is currently working on helping a woman become the first female mayor. Sadako also meets Hisako Tanuma (Tae Kimura), a woman who works as a receptionist for the Murotanae Company. Hisako comes from a poor background and lacks education. Yet, she got the job through the owner of the company.

The movie is centered around five friends as they end up spending the summer of 1962 shackled up together in a tiny studio apartment in Tokyo. The five friends are Eisuke - the manga artist, Shoichi - the singer, Ryuzo - the novelist, Kei - the painter and Yuji – the 5th wheel (?). The friends spend the summer in pursuit of their own ideals of personal freedom - being able to do what they want. The samurai Akiyama Daijiro is asked to help a young boy who tries to bring the man who murdered his father to justice. In the course of their quest they uncover a plot by one of the clan officials that could change the course of history.

Half a Confession introduces itself as a thriller and abruptly changes gears, transforming into a tale of morality with deeper insights into its characters than we had anticipated.
