Diya returned to Malaysia shortly after her disappearance when her engagement was canceled by Iyad. She was staying at her friend's house, Atun, who was the younger sister of Iyad and Ajim. Diya returned with Atun to the village for the ceremony of Myza's son aqiqah and reunited with her adoptive family.

As a child, Ali Neuman narrowly escaped being murdered by Inkhata, a militant political party at war with Nelson Mandela's African National Congress. Only he and his mother survived the carnage of those years. But as with many survivors, the psychological scars remain.
