Robinson is shipwrecked off the coast of the extreme south of Spain. After a tremendous struggle in the stormy waters, he manages to reach the safety of the shore and save his life. He is an anonymous exile in a foreign land, just like so many other thousand of black Africans. Robinson manages to find some work in one of the many large greenhouses that grow fruit and vegetables along the coast of Almeria, but his condition as an illegal immigrant is precarious and he decides to move further inland. Robinson's mind is troubled with interior voices, spirits that control and confound him. In order to free himself from them, he must fulfill a mission: to kill a man.
Santi, a young high-school student with a serious physical reaction to sunlight, is forced by his health to move with his single mother to a shadowy, isolated village in the mountains of Spain where the inhabitants begin to reveal themselves as strangely xenophobic. When terrible, violent events begin to occur, Santi becomes first a pariah at school and then strongly suspected by the police of hideous murders. Spain. The Basque Country. Sometime in the 90s. Josu Jon, a young member of a terrorist organization, has suffered an almost complete memory loss after being wounded in a shooting with the Spanish police. As he awaits for his trial, his condition is being treated at the prison hospital. Other inmates belonging to the same organization try to make him remember how brave a "gudari" -a Basque soldier- he is and how he must go back to the armed fight for the independence of their country as soon as he gets out of prison. Meanwhile, Xabier, a college professor who has been death-threatened by the terrorists due to his political views on the Basque situation, is having an affair with Francesca, a young psychologist who happens to end up trying to help Josu Jon recover his memory. A warm feeling of mutual affection grows between her and her patient. At a point, it doesn't seem to be clear whether Josu Jon really wants to recover his memory or rather forget forever who he actually is.
In the summer of 1978, Juan Martin (Mikel Losada), a young man from San Sebastian, goes to stay at a farmhouse in the Tolosan countryside to improve his Basque at a language school. There, he meets the beautiful Ixabel (Ainere Tolosa). Based on the 2006 movie.
