In the city of Versopolis, people stop uttering the words that crawl out of their mouth, liberating instead the words lodged somewhere deep in their subconscious minds. The words that really mean something.

This feature-length documentary about Professor Jože Dolmark shows the protagonist as a man of many insights, interests and talents; as an art historian, an authority on literature and the history of cinema and photography, a film critic, cineaste, screenwriter, actor, and above all an extraordinary teacher and professor, and in a new light: intimately, through anecdotes and his world view, as befits a man of his greatness. Jože Dolmark is a brilliant intellectual, an eloquent speaker, and an astute observer of Slovenian culture, cinema, and life at large.

The focus is on the disintegration of an idyllic relationship between parents, Marko and Dunja. This is due to a lack of respect, caused by loss of employment and a financial breakdown. In time, the parents are no longer able to bear their burden, which is thus increasingly weighing their children down. In Slovenia, the story from The Basics of Killing occurs on a daily basis, but it could happen anywhere. To those familiar with the phenomenon, the film will be a painful experience, to others, may it be a warning.

This documentary was inspired by the artistic life of Serbian actress Sonja Savić. Being a wonder child, a star of Yugoslavian cinematography, a sex symbol, and urban legend of the eighties generation, a fighter against establishment, Sonja Savić had always attracted attention. Simply put, she always looked, spoke and thought differently from others, she was entirely autonomous, an authentic phenomenon of Serbian culture. In the documentary SONJA, friends and colleagues of Sonja Savić testify on many aspects of her life and work, and a special emphasis is put on Sonja’s libertarian, rebellious, Don Quixote type of nature.
