Gillepsie's term as County Sheriff is coming to an end, and his enemies have found a local businessman, Kerry Madigan, who has high political aspiration, to run against him. They even attempt to enlist Forbes' support and the support of the local press in painting an unfavorable picture of Gillepsie. Meanwhile, the police suspect Frank Cole, one of Madigan's employees, of murdering a pregnant woman. When they request a warrant to test Cole's blood for a DNA match of the dead woman's baby, the judge, who respects Madigan and his employees, is unwilling to approve it.

Max Headroom is a British-produced American satirical science fiction television series by Chrysalis Visual Programming and Lakeside Productions for Lorimar-Telepictures that aired in the United States on ABC from March 1987 to May 1988. The series was based on the Channel 4 British TV pilot produced by Chrysalis, Max Headroom: 20 Minutes into the Future. The series is often mistaken as an American-produced show due to the setting and its use of an almost entirely US cast along with being broadcast in the USA on the ABC network. Cinemax aired the UK pilot followed by a six-week run of highlights from The Max Headroom Show, a music video show where Headroom appears between music videos. ABC took an interest in the pilot and asked Chrysalis/Lakeside to produce the series for US audiences. The show went into production in late 1986 and ran for six episodes in the first season with eight being produced in season two.

Whiz Kids is an American science-fiction adventure television series that aired on CBS in the United States. The 60-minute series was created by Philip DeGuere and Bob Shayne and originally aired from October 5, 1983 to June 2, 1984, lasting one season and consisting of 18 episodes. The premise follows four high school tenth-graders, portrayed by Matthew Laborteaux, Todd Porter, Jeffrey Jaqcuet, and Andrea Elson, who use their sophisticated knowledge of computers to become amateur detectives, solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice. Although the series experienced a notable backlash from critics for its portrayal of teenage computer hackers, the program garnered four Youth in Film Award nominations for its young stars, as well as a fifth nomination as "Best New Television Series" of 1983.
