"Kruso" tells of the last summer before the Wall came down on the small island of Hiddensee in the Baltic Sea. Beyond state-organized tourism, the isolated island became a kind of artist colony every year and a place of longing for dropouts and alternatives. Due to its proximity to Denmark, Hiddensee was also the starting point for the flight across the Baltic Sea.
Magnus once had a girlfriend and a kid. But his girlfriend now has somebody new. And so now Magnus has his classic car, and a bar. Everything about Magnus’ manner makes him a hipster – par excellence. He has a couple of close friends, all cut from the same cloth. But then one night his car is stolen and Magnus falls into a kind of cultivated despair.
Fine suffers from not being seen but she also does her best at not being noticed, even though she is an acting student. At night, when her mentally handicapped sister Jule cannot get to sleep and stereotypically bangs her head against the wall, Fine turns the recorder on and gives a firework of singing, acting and dancing. However in the acting school she lacks self confidence to uninhibitedly storm the stage. After the well known director Kasper Friedemann invites Fine for an audition, she convinces him with her acting.
