Based on the 2005 Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino, the project revolves around a single mother, played by Kareena Kapoor, who lives with her daughter alongside their neighbour in Kalimpong. When her abusive ex-husband returns to Kalimpong to extort money from his former wife, he gets killed by accident in the scuffle. It is here that the neighbour, who is revealed to be in love with her, offers his help in disposing off the body. After lengthy investigations and rock-solid alibis, the police are still not convinced about her innocence. What ensues is a twisted tale about depression, secret romances and murders.
