Over the course of a night, Rachel, a bereaved clinical psychologist, combats her grief with elaborate self-soothing rituals while Lia, a regional shopping network host, tries to obliterate hers in a self-destructive haze. They collide in a televised confrontation.
Slackers in their 20s gather for a pre-Thanksgiving party and find themselves facing the end of the world in ensemble comedy that offers thought fodder concerning the plight of a generation that has been so overshadowed by the hype surrounding the baby boomers that they feel there are no frontiers of reality left to explore. All of the guests know each other from their high school days and have grown up to take wildly divergent paths, many of which are observed before the fateful gathering, hosted by the strangely devilish Kurt Swan, a convicted killer.
With the 1946 formation of "The League of Heroes" in Chicago, the country is introduced to the first ever superhero labor union. Founded by the Gray Raven, his kid sidekick Sparrow, and the amazing Blue Blaze, The League of Heroes was a beacon of hope against evil and tyranny in Chicago. Now twenty years later, as The League is about to expand nationally, an old adversary makes a murderous comeback. Drawn by the rampage, the former sidekick Sparrow returns to the city-- and The League-- for the first time in years.
