At the age of 5, an astrologer predicts that Nandini will bring much happiness to the family, but her marriage will based on her choice and not the choice of her brothers. This angers the brothers and to prevent this from happening, she is raised within the confines of the house.She is home schooled and when she does go out, all the men are warned to hide from Nandini and that seeing Nandini will be met with dire consequences.
The film takes place in a village after which the movie is titled. Thaayamma leads a cloistered life and does not visit anyone. She is worshipped as a holy lad upon whom the god comes down to give them orders periodically. Thaayamma was an orphan and is found by Janagaraj, who is a street performer. They go from house to house begging for food. One day a lonely woman, Sulakshana,(a secret prostitute of the village high man – Vijayakumar) accepts Thaayamma as her own daughter and Janagaraj as her brother, and makes them stay in her own house. After 10 years, Thaayamma attains age and some days later finds Sulakshana's occupation. She and Janagaraj attempt to leave her house, but Sulakshana suddenly falls ill and this stops their exit . After Sulakshana's death, Vijaykakumar, the head of the village, tries to take advantage of Thaayamma. But Thaayamma keeps dodging him and keeps herself chaste.

The film begins with Kannan (Karthik) being released from the prison after 16 years. Rajamani (Janagaraj), his grandfather's servant was there to receive him. Kannan enquires Rajamani about the past sixteen years. After entering into the house, he recollect his past memories. Kannan is the eldest grandson of the family. Kannan arrives at the village for his family temple festival. Kannan is loved by all the family members. Kannan's maternal uncle's daughter also arrived for the festival after sixteen years. In the beginning, both of them tease each other, later both of fall in love. This is opposed by her grandmother and her maternal cousin. On the day of pooja festival, Radhika was shot dead by her cousin. An enraged Kannan get into a brawl with Moorthy and in that, Moorthy dies. Kannan was imprisoned for sixteen years.
