Set in the 1960's and 1970's. Soo-In is a smart student who has never missed ranking at the top of her class. Due to her poor family situation, she begins to work at a factory instead of going to college. Nevertheless, she pursues her dream.

Eun-Hyuk then meets Chinese girl Ching-Ching (Jung Joo-Yeon), who came to Korea to become a singer. Eun-Hyuk feels begins to have feelings for her and he also begins to have doubts with the ongoing turf war with Kil-Nam's gang. Meanwhile, an incident occurs with vicious loan shark Yoon-Sik, which inflames the turf war between the two gangs. Ching-Ching is also ordered to have sex to make her debut as a singer.

But while he was preparing for his bar exam, he witnessed his lawyer friend commit suicide. After that incident, he threw away his hopes and dreams and became a writer.
