Mom's Dead Upset is a 2008 South Korean television series starring Kim Hye-ja, Lee Soon-jae, Baek Il-seob, Shin Eun-kyung, and Ryu Jin. It aired on KBS2 from February 2 to September 28, 2008 on Saturdays and Sundays at 19:55 for 66 episodes. The drama attracted record-breaking ratings, peaking at 42.7% on the September 21 episode. Kim Hye-ja stars as a middle-aged woman who rediscovers herself by taking a one-year break and declaring independence from her family after spending decades as a housewife looking after three children, a husband and a widowed father-in-law. Her performance won the Grand Prize at the 2008 KBS Drama Awards and the 2009 Baeksang Arts Awards.
Set in the 1980’s, the eldest son of a poor family decides to move to Seoul to become a teacher. Yet as soon as he reaches the city, his money is stolen and his bags are lost. He manages to reach a remote town, where coincidentally they were looking for a new teacher for the town children. He soon falls in love with a woman there, yet her origin seems vague as the townspeople only say she comes from somewhere up North. It turns out the townspeople have been communicating with another bordering town in North Korea through a secret tunnel connecting the two.
Jae Hee, a diplomat in Prague, who is getting over a break-up, meets police detective Sang Hyun and romance blossoms. Jae Hee is the daughter of the Korean President and has to maintain a low profile. Jae Hee's ex, Young Woo and Sang Hyun's ex, Hye Joo make things complicated with secrets surrounding them. With the differences in social status, Jae Hee and Sang Hyun have to fight to see if the love that started in Prague can be overcome from what is trying to keep them apart.
Soo-Jung (Lee Seung-Yeon) has a bright and honest personality. She is loved by many people. Soo-Jung works as a magazine photographer. When Soo-Jung gets tired of work and life in general, she goes to her friend Young-Ha's (Park Yong-Ha) workroom. Although she always shows others her bright side, she confides to Young-Ha about her sadness and loneliness. Yong-Ha wants to embrace her pain, but there is a wall between them. Soo-Jung again faces a difficult situation. She then meets Ji-Hwan (Lee Kyoung-Young).
