The film is an omnibus consisting of three stories - "Usvojenje", "Ferije" and "Probni rok". We follow fragments of the lives of young girls from a social institution for children and young adults without parents. In the first story, a wealthy young couple wants to adopt a five-year-old girl, Zeljka. The emotionally undeveloped child has a hard time adapting to her new environment. In Ferije, fifteen-year-old Visnja spends her winter holidays in a gloomy home for young delinquents, where she experiences her first romance. The heroine of the third story is nineteen-year-old Branka who, after her graduation, tries to find a job and become independent from the social institutions she has lived in her entire life.

A young painter comes to the monastery where he's supposed to paint Virgin Mary. There he meets and falls in love with a beautiful novice named Agripina, eventually modeling his artwork by her appearance. This gets him in trouble with the church canons and Mother Superior, and he leaves.

The Spanish Civil War veteran and WW2 partisan Josip Crnković-Cloud faces eviction from his modest little house which is to be demolished soon to make space for new skyscraper. He tries to stop it in a legal way, but fails to break the shield of administrative bureaucreacy. He decides to use dynamite left from the war and simply blow out the house.

In their last attempt to settle down in capital, a boy will experience love in its full meaning.

Peasants of Slovenia and Croatia had even rougher times because of the constant threat of Turk raids and being taxed to death in order to provide defence against the Turks. But, the worst things were arrogant local feudal lords led by Franjo Tahi who were oppresing the common folk. All that led to the great peasant revolt of 1573. The movie is made for the 400th anniversary of the event.

Marina Pinares, the wife of the president of a South American country, insists on being his vice-presidential running mate in the next election. She's no stranger to assassination to get what she wants, so some suspect she'll kill her own husband after the election to become president. In a series of flashbacks we see her rise to power: a party girl willing to sacrifice a friend's virtue to gain favor; the lover of a soldier she later tortures; the mistress of the military man she soon marries.

A group of village boys found a comradeship under the leadership of the most intelligent amongst them - Pero Krvžica. They decide to renovate the old and abandoned watermill on the outskirts of the village. A discord amongst the villages cause the mill to thenceforth remain unused. The owner of the steam mill benefits most from this situation. To make sure it stays closed, the corrupted steam mill owner is ready to bribe customers. Pero's comradeship does not want to give in under the pressure of corrupt villagers...
