Sudden cardiac arrest at the age of 29: Anna Schneider collapses in broad daylight on the street in front of her café. The Dresden police investigators Karin Gorniak and Leonie Winkler convince their boss Schnabel to start the investigation into this mysterious death, although the forensic doctor Jonathan Himpe wants to rule out poisoning. They found out that Anna Schneider had recently filed a criminal complaint against an unknown stalker. In addition to the psychological distress, the victim has recently suffered severe physical pain. Every touch, no matter how small, made her flinch. Gorniak is alarmed: She too has had pain attacks for a few days that she cannot explain. The public medical officer cannot determine a medical cause. The detective chief inspector did not know Anna Schneider, but feels that she is being followed by an invisible person. Could there be a connection between the two women?

The film follows 24 hours in the life of father and daughter Leo and Molly as she grapples with the challenges of dealing with her father’s chaotic mental state. But as they weave their way around New York City, their ordinary but stressful day takes on a hallucinatory and epic quality, for Leo is seamlessly flowing in and out of several parallel lives; a passionate marriage with his childhood sweetheart Dolores in Mexico; a struggling career as a drummer in Manhattan with his more successful lover, Adam; and a life of solitude on a remote Greek island, where a chance encounter with two young tourists unmasks the uncomfortable truths of a family life left behind...

Thinking she has finally found a friend, Hanna’s confidence, and with that her "power", starts to grow, while scary accidents begin to happen around her.

The main protagonists are four – later five – girls: Sprotte (Charlotte), who is the spunky yet friendly main narrator, her best friend Frieda, a level-headed girl who is a member of Terre des hommes, shy and bespectacled Trude, who is unsure because of her obesity, and her best friend, the beautiful, shallow and vain, yet amicable Melanie. Later, they are joined by Wilma, a tough boys-hating tomboy, who is later revealed as a lesbian.
