Hospital Central is a Spanish television series that follows the professional and personal lives of the staff of the fictitious Hospital Central in Madrid. New episodes are shown by Telecinco network in Spain, and cable/satellite channel Factoría de Ficción reruns them a couple of weeks later. Another cable/satellite channel, AXN, reruns the old episodes. The series started in 2000 and is still on the air today in its 18th season, with its success going stronger. It is often said to be a Spanish version of ER.

When famed composer Lluis Doria (Laurent Terzieff) visits a transvestite club, he learns his lifelong friend Albert Rossell (Serge Reggiani) is the house pianist. A flashback takes the tale four decades into the past where the younger Rossell (Pere Ponce) rejoins Teresa (Paulina Galvez) after having spent years in prison for helping anti-Franco anarchists. The story continues into Paris of the '30s, the period when Doria and Rossell first met, sharing a mutual interest in music and Teresa, before civil war sent them in different directions.

This movie was filmed during a civil war between Islamic funamentalists and everyone else in the newly independent country of Tadjikistan, which is near Pakistan and Afghanistan. The constant presence of sounds of gunfire and, in night scenes, the additional illumination by tracer bullets, adds urgency and another layer of feeling to this fairly conventional romance. In the story, Mira (Paolina Galves) has just returned home to Dushanbe from Russia to visit her father (Bokhodur Dzhurabaev), a wastrel who is completely addicted to a local gambling game called "odds and evens," or Kosh Ba Kosh. Even though he has no power over her, he recently wagered (and lost) her in a game of odds and evens. Meanwhile, she has met a cable car operator (Daler Madzhidov) with whom she forms a relationship.
