A situational comedy with some sparkling lines, the film is about Pasupathy who is in dire need of a job, and of the lie he tells to land one. The lie helps him gain the confidence of his eccentric employer, and endear Pasupathy to him. To cover up the lie, Pasupathy has to spin many more yarns with his family and friends supporting his stories. At one point, he conjures up a twin, Kandhan, a karate master, and even a fake mother. But when Kandhan falls in love with the boss’s daughter Janani, matters spiral out of his control.
Rajan Mathur (Anil Kapoor) is a Professor in Urdu literature in Dr. Zakir Hussain's College. He resides in Chandni Chowk with his activist wife, Roma Mathur (Shefali Shah). On a sight-seeing road trip of India, U.K. based Manav Mehta meets Mansi, the daughter of a singer, Tarababu. He is attracted to her, and makes his attraction known. Jaidev Anand is a celebrity, and lives a fairly isolated life. One day he comes to the rescue of a young woman, Vandana Acharya, and falls in love with her. Vandana respects him, but falls in love with another man, Abhimanyu. This news shatters Jaidev, but he decides not to tell Vandana anything. Then the jeep in which Abhimanyu and Vandana were traveling is attacked by an assailant named D.K., and as a result Abhimanyu gets killed. Jaidev is sorry for Vandana, but gets his hopes up enough to propose to her, and to his joy, she accepts. The plans are on for an early marriage, but before that could happen Vandana meets a single mother, Gayetri, and her son. It is then she finds out that Jaidev is already married, and also has a son. What possible reason could Jaidev have for not sharing this information with Vandana?

In a small village having mostly aged people, there has not been any rainfall for the past 3 years. A youngster wanting to be the leader of the village (Sanjay Dutt) has to free the village people from this calamity. The people of the village beg a rich master for water but in vain. So the hero has to go the to city to buy a water tube. In the city all his belongings including his money has been stolen. Then he rescues a guy who was getting beaten up by thieves. They become good friends and they help each other.

Little does he know that by doing so, he could be challenging Gayetri's widowhood, as well as putting his dad and his business in jeopardy.

So Ramesh, Ramola and Lalaji concocts a plot, making Ramola masquerade as a naive, non-English speaking village belle, with hilarious and unpredictable results.

Dr. Sunil Gupta lives a wealthy lifestyle with his wife, Aarti. Although they have been married for several years, they do not have any children. Aarti did get pregnant once, but failed to conceive. Aarti decides to travel to take a break in their Khandala bungalow, which is also in the neighborhood of Aarti's sister Vidya, her son, Raju and her husband's house. Since her bungalow is being decorated by Vinod, whom she remembers as her fellow collegian, both spend considerable time together. When Vinod finds out that Aarti is basically alone most of the time, he proposes to her - but Aarti rejects him, a physical tussle ensues, Aarti grabs a revolver, a shot is fired, Vinod falls down the stairs and dies. Vidya assists Aarti in disposing off his body.

When she goes to meet Sanjay, she is shocked to find that the young man claiming to be Manjeet, is just a Manager, and it is then she gets to meet the real Manjeet, and both eventually fall in love with each other. But once again, Kajal's heart is broken, when she finds out that Manjeet's real name is Rajesh, and he is part of a deceptive plot that involves her abduction.

Vandana and Arun fall in love the instant they meet. On a trip to a Shiv temple, they get married in an impromptu ceremony in front of God. Brahmachari (Shammi Kapoor), an orphan with no identity, takes care of many children who are orphans in his home. Being poor, it is hard for him to take care of their every need. One day he saves a young woman Sheetal (Rajshree) from committing suicide. She's in love with Ravi Khanna (Pran) who likes to have many affairs. Brahmachari promises to get them together but asks money from her in return. Day and night he works on her appearance to make Ravi like her, but Brahmachari falls in love with her. When Ravi proposes to Sheetal, she realises she loves Brahmachari. He denies his love for her saying he wants to be big in life and marry a rich girl. When she tries to commit suicide again, he accepts her.

Memdidi tells a simple and endearing story of Mrs. Roy (Memdidi), who moves in as a new neighbor to the two local tough guys, Bahadur Singh (David) and Sher Khan (Jayant), with a heart of gold. Hrishikesh Mukherjee's direction and screenplay makes this movie a gem and worth watching again and again.
