Despite the trials of this and the previous day, Steve took as much time as needed to meet all of his fans (including this one) with a smile before Renaissance took the stage to open the evening. To my surprise, I was then put into a pair of 3rd row/right seats with my video camera and a light tripod. What more could one ask for? A great set of course... and it was!

In the beginning, there was Gabriel. Music critics and musicians review the works of groundbreaking British band Genesis from 1970-75, when Peter Gabriel was front man. This comprehensive look at the band's work during the Gabriel Era features footage from a number of European television companies and rare performances of "The Knife," "Stagnation," "The Musical Box," "The Fountain of Salmacis" and many other songs.

Spanning the years 1975 to 1980, this music-rich review traces a tumultuous but pivotal time for Genesis, an era that saw the band lose lead singer Peter Gabriel and learn to rely on the vocal prowess and pop sensibilities of drummer Phil Collins. Extras include bonus tracks of former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett, who left the band in 1977, performing "Please Don't Touch" and "In the Quiet Earth."

Steve Hackett's reputation was founded on his outstanding guitar playing with Genesis covering much of the 1970s and encompassing Nursery Cryme through to Seconds Out. Having left the band in 1977, Steve built on the success of his earlier solo outing Voyage Of The Acolyte with a series of critically acclaimed albums that spawned a large worldwide following. Here we present Steve live in concert in Nottingham filmed in 1990 performing a selection of his best known solo work. In 1996, Steve Hackett (formerly of Genesis) assembled a progressive rock supergroup, including players from Genesis, King Crimson, Asia, Weather Report, and Frank Zappa's band, for two nights of concerts in Japan.

When Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford joined forces in the late sixties, their intentions were not to be recording artists but rather songwriters. That initial plan soon fell by the wayside when they secured a record deal and became Genesis, progressing from the underground scene with such albums as "Trespass" and "Nursery Cryme," to become household names with the addition of drummer/singer Phil Collins and such chart topping albums as "We Can't Dance" and "Invisible Touch." By talking to the individual members of the group, discover what they consider to be their favorite Genesis songs, and why certain songs have a special place in the Genesis story. Song include: I Can't Dance, Invisible Touch, Follow You Follow Me, The Musical Box, Supper's Ready, I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe), The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Afterglow, Misunderstanding, Turn It On Again, Mama, Land of Confusion.

MTV Sunday special about the history of the English rock band, Genesis.

Live at The Moody Coliseum, University Park, Dallas, Texas, March 19, 1977 When they toured, Genesis decided to go for the best light show imaginable, dropping the projections they had used in the past. According to the CD notes, “The result was staggering. The sight of those fifty jumbo jet landing lights, lit all at once or flashing in time with the music, or the amazing new laser effects, left audiences stunned and delighted and in no doubt at all that this was indeed a world class band.” They had also become a very tight outfit and the show was taped for an official release, which never materialised. Songlist: 1.) Firth Of Fifth 2.) Dance On A Volcano 3.) Drum Duet 4.) Los Endos 5.) The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway 6.) The Musical Box (Ending Section)

Genesis In Concert, filmed in 1976 during the band's tour supporting the album A Trick Of The Tail, was the first long-form concert video featuring Phil Collins as lead vocalist, taking over from Peter Gabriel who had left the previous year. Supplementing Collins at percussion during this tour was Yes & King Crimson drummer Bill Bruford, whom Collins was a fan of and who volunteered for the job until a permanent touring drummer could be found. The movie combines film of two shows: one at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow, Scotland on July 9, 1976, and one at Bingley Hall in Staffordshire, England on July 10, 1976. Long out of print on VHS and laserdisc, the film resurfaced as an extra on the band's 2007 CD+DVD reissue of A Trick Of The Tail. Genesis First Live Concert Album

The most riveting Peter Gabriel-era Genesis video comes from a year earlier. For one reason or another, they found themselves playing a 30-minute set for Belgian TV in March 1972. These are the kinds of events often left in the dustbin of history but, somehow, a pretty stellar copy got out. The group performs early prog classics "The Fountain of Salmacis," "Twilight Alehouse," "The Musical Box" and "The Return of the Giant Hogweed." 1. Fountain of Salmacis 2. Twilight Alehouse 3.
